If your into sedantry lifestyle or at a 9:00 to 6:00 job, getting enough movement is must and keeps you healthy. Yeah we know all the blogs and websites talk about this.
But I cant run everyday, and keep running all my life, its wearing off my knees sooner. Yes I'm losing weight, but it is taking a toll on my knees.
Treadmill Running can sooth your knees, but again it depends on the treadmill you have, its better to have a commercial treadmill, I know the cost but keeps you in shape with less strain. I'm not promoting any product here.
Here are some of the key pointers for runners to keep the passion alive and reduce weight:
Join a gym (best option and value for your money)
Buy a commercial Treadmill (refurbished or used)

Give it rest - 2 days a week ( Run only 4-5 days a week)

Meetup Groups - like minded people

When you loose the passion on Monday or your restless to even getup, imagine the shape you would always wanted, ohh that summer beach look. Also joining gym keeps you active with other exercises and you would not feel monotonous of doing same thing everyday.
If you still feel same old boring stuff, try swimming for a change relax your great body on pool. No matter how much your current weight is or out of shape your body looks, you need to always stay in love with your body and one day reach the goal.
Ok what happens, after i have hit my goal weight. I want to relax my knees, this is the dangerous phase of running or physical activity. Try to keep yourself unsatisfied with your goals, and push for next thing, getting a stronger body as now your thin. Getting a slick and ripped stomach should be your next objective.
